From 1 to 5 September, the iTunnes project (co‑funded by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency – CINEA) held its second thematic workshop on the trophic ecology of tropical tunas at AZTI headquarters in Pasaia.
The main goal of the workshop was to advance the standardization of stomach content analysis methods, with particular emphasis on prey identification, database usage, and innovative analytical approaches.
The session was led by Dr Evgeny Romanov (CiTEB, Réunion Island) and brought together partners from the iTunnes consortium: AZTI, Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO‑CSIC), Secretaria Regional de Mar e Pesca – Direção Regional de Pescas (DRM‑Madeira), and Secretaria Regional do Mar e das Pescas – Direção Regional das Pescas (DRP‑Azores).
The workshop provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and generate knowledge supporting a better understanding and sustainable management of tropical tuna fisheries.
